Little Smiles

Here are a couple videos of Kaydence giving us some smiles. Unfortunately, I got the camera a little too late -- the majority of the smiles were "off the record" -- but I thought some of you might enjoy these videos anyway.

7 Weeks

Kaydence is 7 weeks old today. She has started to smile a lot more. Although, I still haven't been able to capture it on camera yet. She was giving daddy lots of smiles in bed this morning as he was singing Beatles songs to her...it was so cute. By the time I got the video camera out, she was all smiled out, but I did get a couple half smiles on video. I will upload that video later today.

Yesterday, we took a trip to Madison to visit my friends at Foley. She slept through the whole thing, but everyone seemed to enjoy her anyway.

She is starting to enjoy some of her toys and looking at books during tummy time (see picture below). Earlier in the week I thought she was coming down with my cold, but now I just think she is trying to fight it off. She never got a full blown cold, but she has been sneezing more than usual and her nose has been a little stuffy. I'm hoping it doesn't turn into anything more than it is right now.

Kaydence has been burping a lot better after she eats, but she still complains when she burps and spits up. Not sure if it's gas or reflux, but at least we haven't had many meltdowns. I think there were just two this week after she ate. She has also been a lot happier during her awake times, giving us smiles and such.

This past week we got into a great bedtime routine that resulted in our entire family getting about 6.5 hours of sleep in a row at night. It was wonderful! I've been feeding her around 8:30 p.m., change diaper, bath, lotion and pj's, crying from the lotion, doze off, then dream feed at 10:30 p.m., swaddle, and put to bed. She had been sleeping from 11:00/11:30 p.m. to 5:30/6:30 a.m. this entire week, until last night. Last night she woke up again at 2:00 a.m. to eat. Oh well. I associated it to the fact that she hadn't pooped for an entire day and I think she was struggling to do so. Hopefully, she'll get her poop out and then get back into the routine tonight. We'll see, I guess.

There is a sweet sleepy daddy/daughter picture below that I love. It's also proof to how much she looks like her daddy. It's so cute -- I love it!

Our Sleeping Beauty

Easter

Kaydence spent her very first Easter in Marshfield this past weekend. We all had a great time.

Before I forget, I should mention that Kaydence had her one month appointment last Friday. She is growing! She is 8 lbs (25%), 20.25 inches (25%), and her head measures 35.5 cm (10%). She is still tiny, but we're so proud of her growth. Good job, Kaydence! We love you!

Here are some pictures to highlight the weekend.

A visit to daddy's office...

Last week Wednesday Kaydence made her first visit to daddy's office. She wore the perfect outfit pictured below. :-)

P.S. Yes, she is losing her hair and going bald. Although, she is sporting a mullet in the back.

I'm One Month Old Today!

Happy one month birthday to me!!! Look at how expressive I am. I even held my head up and turned it from side to side for 2 straight minutes yesterday. Mommy and daddy are very proud of me. I go to the doctor on Friday and they will tell me how much I've grown. Sometimes I look very confused in my pictures -- I'm just trying to figure out why these strange people are staring at me and blinding me with a bright light.

Well, here are my one month pictures! Enjoy!

I'm officially a mean mommy...

I tried several different outfits on Kaydence today to see if they fit. The first two were still too big and by the time I got the third outfit on, she was crying hysterically, so we just went with it. It's still a little big, but not too bad (she'll be able to wear it for awhile). The dress is from my friend Amy -- thanks, Amy! I would have put tights on her, if I had some. I didn't want her little legs to get cold so I put some Baby Legs on her, which are also too big so she looks kind of frumpy, but at least she's still cute.

After she screamed from being changed she just wanted me to snuggle her, so I did and she fell fast asleep. I love that she loves to snuggle. Then, the mean mommy that I am, I put her in her swing since she was sleeping and when I was buckling her in her foot got caught underneath the tray and it pinched her leg and she woke up and started screaming. I felt so bad for her...poor thing. She fell right back asleep, but you should have seen the look on her face, it was so sad.

Here is a picture of her after she had been snuggled and before she got pinched.

Here are some more pictures of our sweet baby girl during playtime yesterday. She lasted for quite awhile, I was so proud of her. I think I actually got an "on purpose" smile from her yesterday. I was burping her and talking to her and she smiled...it looked like she was responding to me anyway.

Teirney's parents are coming tonight and staying all next week because they are on spring break. She'll get to have some fun bonding time with Grandma and Grandpa. I'm sure we'll get lots of pictures to post.

Tummy Time

Yesterday, Kaydence had her first official "tummy time." Until now, tummy time consisted of laying on mommy or daddy's tummy for awhile. But I decided it was time to try out the tummy time mat yesterday. I'm not sure if being curled up in a ball and sleeping counts for "tummy time," but we tried.

I'm convinced Kaydence is an overachiever because she is already lifting her head almost entirely on her own and on more than one occasion she has tried to crawl. Yes, crawl! When my mom was staying with me, we had her laying on her tummy while we gave her a sponge bath and she scrunched up her knees underneath her and literally tried to scoot herself. Then tonight we had her on her tummy mat and she did the exact same thing and actually scooted herself off of the mat -- her feet were where her head is supposed to be. We were shocked! But I should mention that on both occasions she wasn't very happy about the position she was in, so it was pure frustration that got her to move.

We've had a somewhat rough week. Kaydence is having some tummy issues after she eats and she screams out in pain. Sunday night was so sad -- we had a hard time consoling her. The past couple nights have been a little better, but her evening feedings are the worst. She is usually fine until the late afternoon and then that is when all the gas starts to build up in her tummy (at least that is what I think is happening). By her 8:00/8:30 pm feeding, she is in terrible pain. We've tried gas drops, but they don't always work. Poor thing, she drinks so fast and doesn't burp, so that adds to her pain. I've heard that dairy can sometimes upset a newborn's stomach because their digestive systems aren't mature enough yet. So I decided I'm going to go off dairy and see if that helps. This is going to be a huge sacrifice for me, since I love all things dairy, but it will be worth it if it helps my cute one.

All Kaydence still wants to do is eat and sleep. I noticed today though that she is becoming more aware of her surroundings -- she was studying things intently today. She even looked like she was responding to my silly baby talk and I thought I maybe got a smile (or maybe it was just gas). Hopefully within the next week or so we'll get to see a smile that we know isn't just gas.

Here is something random. Kaydence is an extremely messy eater. She gets milk everywhere -- on her face, clothes, and me. It makes me laugh, but doesn't make me want to feed her anywhere but at home. I hope that gets better. That's all.
